Therapeutic intervention

qpc therapeutic

At QPC, we understand that while direct work with young people is crucial, it is equally important to support staff in creating a therapeutic environment that enhances the work within their home life. We focus our efforts on both the staff team (training, supervision, consultation, and multi-disciplinary coordination) and direct work with young people (assessment, formulation, and individual or gap work).

Children at QPC receive therapeutic support in various ways, tailored to their individual needs. These interventions are based on the findings of the clinical assessment and psychological formulation:

  1. Psychological Consultation
  2. Training
  3. Group Therapy  / Interventions
  4. Individual / Direct Therapy

Clinical Services

Within our organization, Quality Protects Children (QPC), we are proud to feature an in-house clinical team. Our commitment is to provide comprehensive clinical offerings, tailored to the unique needs of young individuals. Our core costings for young people encompass a range of therapeutic interventions, acknowledging the significance of both direct engagement with young people and the essential support for staff in fostering a therapeutic environment within their homes.

The clinical team collaborates closely with the care team, offering invaluable support through various mechanisms, including:

  • Reflective practice sessions
    Consultation sessions with staff
One-on-one spaces for staff members encountering challenges with a young person’s behavior
PACE training for care staff, complemented by targeted training addressing specific needs of the young people in our care.

In addition to the aforementioned services, our initial offering encompasses:

  • Psychological formulation
    Strength and Difficulty Questionnaires (SDQs)
    WRAT and WRIT assessments
    Resilience scale evaluation
    Trauma scale assessment
    BECKS analysis

For situations requiring more specialized attention beyond our initial therapeutic package, additional funding from the child’s placing authority becomes necessary. Specialized therapeutic interventions may include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
AIMS/JSAP assessment for harmful sexualized behaviors
    Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)
    Support for Eating Disorders
One-on-one direct therapeutic engagement with the young person.

Please note that the list of specialist interventions provided above is not exhaustive, and we remain dedicated to adapting our services to the evolving needs of the young individuals under our care.

Psychological Consultation

It is recognised that all children in care need to live in an environment where they feel safe and understood. The principles of developing healthy attachments, acting as a good parent and permanency form the bedrock of our philosophy of care at QPC. Following an assessment, the psychological formulation of the child is fed back to the staff team by way of consultation. The staff team members are encouraged to be active agents in this process and in doing so develop a sense of ownership over the intervention plan. This ‘top-down’ and ‘bottom-up’ dynamic increases dialogue between the clinical and residential team and reduces staff burn-out and splitting.

Training

In addition to mandatory training, residential staff receive additional training on a range of topics that relate to mental health and neurodevelopmental development. Bespoke training packages have also been developed for staff to support them to address the unique needs of the children in their care.

The direct work delivered by QPC with the young people will include direct therapy and the delivery of preparatory work needed prior to any further specialised therapy undertaken to focus on specific trauma and events within their life.

Group Therapy

QPC, has in partnership with colleagues from the USA working in the field of the impact of multiple trauma on young people, piloted and implemented SPARCS as a therapeutic model for group living.

Direct Therapy

Direct therapy is provided on a needs-led basis and is delivered by members of the clinical team under the supervision of our Clinical Psychotherapist  includes: CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy); EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy); Narrative Therapy and Person-Centred Counselling.

The professionals supporting the child are kept informed on a regular basis regarding the child’s therapeutic progress. The clinical team liaises regularly with residential and educational staff to ensure that the direct therapy is having a tangible impact on the child’s presentation within the home and school environment.
